Set in a strip mall, we didn't know how good it would be when we walked into a very festive cute restaurant, and were immediately taken by the delicious aromas. The Pollo Asada was excellent as were the crab and the shrimp enchiladas. Excellent service topped off our wonderful dining experience. This Mexican restaurant stands out amongst its competitors.

I love this restaurant, but I tried ordering over the phone from online menu and I was surprised I was being charged more, I explained that the price she was quoting me was more than what was online and she proceeded to say that the owner has not updated the menu online yet, he has not had the time, I think they should honor their prices from their own website.

Service was okay, a little inattentive. The food was above average for a Mexican restaurant/chain. Nothing special though.

5-star rating from Cali girl here! i.e. this review is worth your attention ;) Despite having frequented many NorCal and SoCal taquerias, I must admit being a bit surprised to find one of the best Mexican restaurants ever in Oregon. On a family trip up north, I was given a duty to find a restaurant in the vicinity because it was on the way. Trusting my Yelp instincts, I decided upon Mazatlan Grill despite the few number of reviews (guess I'm helping to fix that problem!). After seeing for myself at a dinner here, I truly believe that the stellar ratings will continue. Entering the restaurant, you immediately feel like you're in a casa or pueblo of sorts. The walls are a mustard yellow stucco with vivaciously colorful tiles and other decor. Exactly what you would imagine an authentic Mexican restaurant to look like, and it doesn't look staged at all. And not to sound racist (not sure if this qualifies as racist...?) but like previous reviews mentioned, all the staff are Mexican. The Mexican food experience can't get any more real. Though you can never complain about complimentary chips and salsa, my first bite here was a disappointment. The tortilla chips were warm which was good, but they lacked the homemade flavor and tasted suspiciously like the salty bland ones you can get for really cheap in bulk. The salsa was very watery too. 1-star rating for the chips and salsa. At this point I really wasn't expecting much from the Oregon Mexican restaurant, but my appetite skyrocketed once the entrees arrived. They have a good selection of classic Mexican food (burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc.) and a bunch of combinations so you can be sure you'll find what you're looking for if you have a craving for something traditional. We wanted to try something more unique, so we went for the section titled "Pollo Estilo Mexicano", which features grilled chicken cooked many different ways. I recommend both dishes we tried: Pollo Chicano Style (boneless chicken sauteed with green peppers and onions topped with a tasty Mexican sauce, $12.50): sounds rather plain but omg it was amazing. "Tasty Mexican sauce" is a glaring understatement. Pollo Asado (grilled chicken breast marinated with citrus juice "achiote" tree seeds and spices, $12.50): heaping portions of chicken that has a kick to it. The seasoning is almost Cajun. Both came with rice, beans, and cole slaw. The rice is standard; to my knowledge, the rice has tasted more or less the same in every Mexican restaurant I've been to. The menu didn't indicate though that the refried beans come with cheese on top, so if you are particular about not having cheese on your beans then remember to point it out. I liked the cole slaw, which is a bit spicy with fresh, crunchy vegetables. Our server was very energetic and friendly, and all the other servers were very helpful too. They work well as a team, unlike those restaurants where everyone else ignores you so you're kind of stuck when you can't find your server. Tip: Their menu is online! Especially helpful to indecisive people (like me) and to anyone roadtripping who must plan make the fateful decision about what one restaurant to pick in this area (also me) mazatlangrill.com

This place is great! Reasonably priced, delicious food and very friendly servers. I pretty much love all Mexican food, but this place is my favorite in the area for sure.

I've eaten here a number of times. It's good but not amazing. The chips are hit and miss you miss. The bacon wrapped shrimp is awesome. I'll definitely come back but only because I don't want to drive to grants pass or Phoenix.

This place is in the middle of nowhere, in a strip mall and if it wasn't for the high reviews by my fellow Yelpers, I would probably not consider it. Boy, would I have been wrong. Atmosphere and design feels authentic and all the staff was speaking Spanish to each other. That is encouraging. I could hear some Spanish coming from the kitchen which was even more encouraging. This is not "Americanized" joint, this is legit, Jose! By now, you can guess that me and my family were more than happy with the food. The sangria was delish as well. I live too far away, but if you are nearby or just passing through, make sure to stop by.

My absolute favorite place to eat! My husband & I love everything about this restaurant. The owners treat you like familia, the waitstaff are so courteous & friendly, and the food is so delicious that I am getting hungry thinking about it! My favorite is the chicken fajitas, mi esposo loves their burrito plate with beans & rice. I can't wait to go back again very soon!

Amazingly authentic Mexican food for this far from Mexico. Very clean restaurant. Well staffed. Amazing decor Outstanding food. Unique flavors. Do not judge by outside building. Looks plane in strip mall. But inside is a GEM!!!

Every Time we come here the staff is always so nice and helpful. The chicken fajitas are some of the best I have ever had (that's what I always get at any Mexican restaurant). The prices are very reasonable and portions are plentiful. We will be back whenever we are in town. Keep up the good work!

Omg. We are waiting for our flight home to AZ and happened upon this place near the airport. They are soooo nice! Atmosphere is so charming. Mexican tiles in every booth. Kindest hostesses, wait staff, etc. Packed restaurant but they found space for us. Great margaritas. So unexpected and fun. Great salsa!!

A small town, locally owned Azteca in a nutshell. Your standard Mexican food fare, free chips and salsa, and burritos galore. Tacos al carbon were delicious and very comparable to others I've had. Service is quick and friendly. Would definitely stop by again.

Pleasantly surprised. Being from out of town I'm always skeptical but the food was great and so was the service!

Pretty Tasty place we got here. We went on a Friday night so there was a 10-15 minute wait for a group of 5. Seating can be a bit tight. Food: Yum, easy 4+ stars. Everything was very tasty. Except I got the Taco Salad (in the tortilla bowl), and the shell was cold and you had to tear it, normally they break apart, so it seemed it had been cooked a day or two before. The salsa is awesome. Service: eh... 2 maybe 3 star. It was definitely lacking, they forgot a drink for quite a while. They brought out one plate, then 3-4 minutes later, 2 more plates, then another few minutes the last two plate. They forgot to bring me my grilled jalepenos which he had offered me. Price: Little on the high side comparatively. Still a tasty place and I will probably go back time to time.

An Azteca Restaurant decor with an above average menu, this will satisfy most hungry for that Mexican interpretation. Our two dishes resulted in a hit/miss. Digs: Brightly decorated and begging to transport you to another time when celebration was tiled on the walls. It always seems packed with the locals needing that Mexican-food fix. Families abound with a happy chaotic ruckus. Ate: Vegetarian Nachos - very tasty, drenched in cheese but a veggie array at the same time Shrimp Fajitas - sad, flavor-lacking, vegetable mix was not fully cooked perhaps, few prawns Authenticity, has always been a struggle for me when considering what is Mexican food? How much of our need for the big ticket items (burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, etc.) have hurt their culture's true traditional menu? Other review debate and compare, but I hope to learn more on future travels across the border.

Great food! Fresh and made to order. I let our waiter know I was Celiac. He said "no problem, tell me what you need we will make it for you " And they did! The shrimp fajitas were specially made and the green enchilada sauce was blended fresh for my husband. Because all their sauces had flour in them. When you go there make sure you taste the chips and salsa. Great fresh cilantro taste even took some home. We will be back.

This is my favorite Mexican place in the area. It has the cheesy atmosphere but it doesn't have the low-quality food notorious to those places. The staff is incredible. Every time I go they're very attentive. They bring water without asking (Thank You!) They take your order promptly if you'd like it. The only thing I'd recommend is when they drop off the check to remind you to go up to the front to pay. Sometimes I'm not paying attention and I'll completely forget and just sit there. Food is delicious. This place has by far one of the best Mole sauces. Love the enchilada sauce. Price is also very very reasonable. My and my brother can literally split this chicken appetizer (I don't think they're taquitos but the name is slipping my mind right now). It's 10 bucks total and fills both of us up. The extra large enchiladas are huge and definitely two meals for under 10 bucks as well.

The.Best.Salsa.Ever! Great food, pleasant staff, CLEAN, tastefully decorated, ladies bathroom. Seems to attract a lot of locals, yet is also a great place to stop when traveling (it's not too far off of I-5). Highly recommend!

Really good food and great service. The chips salsa and guacamole would have been enough to fill us up but oh no we had to order the tacos and enchilada with beans and rice. Yum

Went to dinner on a Friday night. It was very busy, but we did get seated quite quickly at a large table in the bar area. The chips and salsa came quickly, as did refills on our beverages. The problem came with the food. There were about 7 of us, all the children ordered burritos and rice and beans. Their food was fine. The tostada ordered was also fine. Me and another ordered fajitas and our sides came out long before our chicken skillet did. The chicken with veggies didn't come for another 4 or 5 minutes, while out rice and beans got cold. Finally out chicken came, and the servers brought us flour instead of corn tortillas, twice! Once we finally got to eat, I realized all of my bell peppers were raw and i had to press them into my skillet to try and cook them further, and there was so much hot grease that it was splattering my arm. That same evening, another in out group got food poisoning. She had eaten one of the chicken dishes, the Carnitas de Pollo. She was sick for 24 hours.

All said and done- a pretty good place to go for Mexican. Parse it down into its separate parts and its not stunning- cramped seating, forgetful wait staff, loud atmosphere, long wait time, pricy entrees... However, the food was not bad, and the salsa was tasty. Some of the food seemed precooked/old or microwaved. Taco shells were limp, not crisp. It felt like the waiters were going to bump into each other and spill food on us at any moment.

We were pleasantly surprised when we went here - much bigger on the inside than it seems on the outside. Food was good, atmosphere was nice and we had a great server. It reminded me of a Don Jose's/Rodrigo's (if you're familiar with those places). It was pretty busy on a Friday night, and we've heard nothing but good things about this place from friends. We look forward to going back and trying some different things on the menu.

This restaurant is your average Mexican restaurant with great selections and a cozy atmosphere. The real big downside to this place is that you CANNOT BOOK FOR LARGE PARTIES ON FRIDAY-SUNDAY. I tried to for a wedding rehearsal and they refused.

I am not a big fan of Mexican food and I loved this place! Ordered the arroz con pollo and it was so flavorful and perfect. Loved the mushrooms, peas, and onions as well as the delicious sauce. The ladies working there were so nice and friendly. Also impressed with the fun decor and ambiance. I would definitely recommend this place!

Mazatlan Grill is one of our favorite local restaurants, in fact we eat here at least once every other week! The atmosphere is relaxing and bright and the staff are ALWAYS energetic and very welcoming. The have great salsa and chips immediately served when seated and when requested they have an amazingly tasty habanero sauce! This week my wife had the carne asada platter while I had the pollo asado; both dishes have tons of meat and come with rice and bean along with your choice of tortilla. The flavors in both meats is outstanding and the reason we usually have the same meal each time. Another favorite is either the tacos carbon or the chimichanga - both come with rice and bean and are each excellent flavors and filling. Our daughter usually gets the cheese quesadilla which also comes with rice and beans which she devours immediately when brought to the table waiting for the quesadilla to cool. And finally to drink they make an excellent margarita - either blended or on the rock it has a great flavor. I am not a big margarita fan (rather have straight tequila) but theirs have won me over. Until the next time - I'm already dreaming of the flavors! mazatlangrill.com

Spending the night in Central Point, we looked to Yelp for dinner recommendations. We're glad that we did because we had an enjoyable dinner at the highly rated Mazatlan. The service was fast and friendly, plus the prices were moderate. I had the Chipotle Chicken and my wife had the Carnitas Chicken. Both were great and we'll order them again the next time we pass thru.

4.5 star average? I'm expecting fireworks for 4.5 stars. The food was good, but in comparison to California Mex cuisine, average. The service was outstanding. I would rate Mazatlan at 3.5 stars...

Yes. Eat here. This place is great! The food was fantastic. They brought us freshly made tortilla chips and salsa to start (both yummy). I had pollo diabla something and it was delicious. My husband had fajitas, which came to the table sizzling in the pan and were also delicious. Everything was flavorful and filling, and it wasn't greasy (which can happen sometimes with Mexican food). Also the portions were enormous and everything came with rice, beans, and pico de gallo. The staff is super friendly and very attentive. The decor is also fun (mosaic tiles all over the place and walls painted with scenes of life in Mexico). They also have a bunch of booths, so if you want a more private dining experience you can have one. Totally wonderful in every way. I wish we had one in Portland because I would eat there all the time!

Another wonderful meal at this great family establishment. We are always treated so well by the staff and the food is amazing. My husband almost always orders the Platillo de Mazatlan, it's a huge portion (enough for two) and it's delicious. Their Carne Asada is also wonderful. I have had so many things there and I have never been upset with a single meal. Great people, food, and take out.

My co-worker and I travelled to Central Point, for business. Coming from California where you can get any kind of food. This place hit the spot!!! We weren't sure what to expect, but boy were our expectations met!!! We had grilled chicken tacos and they were very good. The service was great. I would highly recommend trying this place.

I came in with my family the other night after hearing rave reviews both online and from people I know. When we walked in, it smelled AMAZING, and there was a bottle of Tapatio on every table. Promising! It took a bit to get seated, but we were also there on a Saturday night. We were seated in the back of the restaurant near the bar. When we opened our menus, we were very confused. It's almost the EXACT same menu as Si Casa Flores, only some of the names have been changed around. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. We live right down the street from Si Casa and have had almost everything on the menu that appeals to us...so we had a hard time deciding what to get. The waiter came over a time or two to take our orders, and we just couldn't decide because we felt a bit uninspired. He then told us to "let him know" when we were ready to order. Sure enough, my fiance had to go find him on the other side of the restaurant to tell him we were ready. I was very unimpressed with this. -1/2 a star for that, buddy. So we placed our orders; I can't remember everything that everyone got, but I remember that my fiance got the crab enchiladas, which he said were outstanding (I didn't try them). My mother and daughter both got the combo with the cheese enchilada and tamale; both raved about the enchiladas, but said the tamales had next to no pork in them. I had the cheese enchilada with chicken chalupa, and I was very sadly disappointed :( The chalupa is HUGE, but there must have been two giant handfuls of lettuce, and very, very little chicken. To make matters worse, it was falling apart before it even got to me. Picking it up is not possible; you're better off getting a tostada or taco salad. Large portion of beans and rice, and I did like the rice. However, I couldn't find my enchilada. When I asked the waiter, he made a frowny face and told me that it was under my chalupa, which turned the bottom of the chalupa shell into a soggy mess like wet bread :( If the owner is reading this, I kindly suggest putting the chalupa on a separate plate, instead of atop the enchilada and beans :) We ended our meal with the fried ice cream, which was absolutely delicious. Everyone else in my family was happy with their meals. I, however, was underwhelmed. I was very excited to go to Mazatlan because I was told it was "REAL Mexican food." However, after seeing that the menu is so similar to SCF (on the plus side, things are a few dollars cheaper at Mazatlan than at SCF), AND that they use parmesan cheese (in a Mexican restaurant, what is THAT?), I'm thinking that my quest continues. Maybe I went on an off night, who knows? I've heard nothing but good about this place, so I'd probably be willing to give it another chance. Aside from the whole come-track-me-down thing with the waiter, he seemed nice enough. And I could definitely go for another fried ice cream, it was BOMB! And their chips and salsa are pretty good, too.

It's not a place you will think about stoping at on I5. If you want lunch or dinner you gotta go here. I'm an American Born mexican missing moms food. I was satisfied. It started with the lovely hostess Crystal seating us and making sure we were happy with our table. Then came drinks and chips. The salsa could have been hotter but i can't complain. Had enchiladas verdes. Great ! I can't wait to come this way again so I can stop here.

Love this place! Awesome seafood dishes. The best is the seafood molcajete.

  • Gabriel B.

Solid food. If you've been to Si, Casa Flores, you'll recognize the menu (and decor) straight off. Most of the entrees are excellent. I stay away from anything deep fried as it tends to be greasy, but try the pollo mole (chicken with mole sauce) or arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), two favorites of mine. If you're a pasta fan, try the pollo ala crema (chicken with creamy sauce), no pasta on the dish but the sauce will be familiar. Service is always good which is one of the big reasons we keep going back.

2.5 Mazatlan seems popular enough that I don't really mind giving them a low rating. I don't understand the comment of the previous reviewer implying that Mexican waitstaff implies a "real deal" experience. I'm an American, but I don't think I'd be competent to manufacture an American car, or to play American football. It's not as though these people emigrated from Mexico with the dream of opening a 5-star restaurant in Central Point, OR. Anyway, the food is edible. The entrees are surprisingly decent for Tex-Mex, though nothing worth seeking out. The rice and beans accompaniment, and whatever else is on the side of the plate, may cause you to distrust the core entree. But the portions are big enough that you needn't eat any of this stuff. Usually, for half-star ratings, I give the lower rating and mark up in the body of the review. The waitstaff was professional and very nice, though. And the alcohol prices were reasonable (important when navigating freeway cuisine).

Whenever I am visiting my brother and his family, we go to dinner at Mazatlan's. The food is excellent, and the service is very good. They are very accommodating and can handle large crowds and little kids. I look forward to my annual visit to this place!

Cool, another first! Guess its one of the benefits of traveling to "small" towns! Anyways, in spite of being located in a strip center, this is the real deal!! How do I know? 100% Mexican staff: check Good selection of Tequila on the bar shelf: check Menu items written in Spanish: check Authentic Mexican decor, not homogenized rip-off imitations: check Huge, heaping platters of yummy food: check Reasonable prices: check I ordered a tostada with chicken, avocado, and sour cream, and when the dish arrived, I couldn't even see the plate, let alone the tortilla! Great side of beans with real, melted cheese and Mexican rice. Stuff my stomach some more, will ya!!??

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
